For some time now, my practice has been focused on working with utility alleyways, loading docks, car parks and back of shop storage areas.
In these places convenience and utility vie for space and aesthetics are designed out.
Areas like these have shapes and colours that all of the pretties of the front facades have pushed to the rear - to the laneways hidden at the back-of-shop.
A city has only one purpose for these nooks, and that is need.
I picked these subjects for this project with a quest for social comment.
I strongly want to remind you, me, them and us that life has a myriad of different beautiful things.
But some are more sellable and some others can be threatened when the state panics.
So when some one buys my work and hangs it on their wall, it should be working to remind people that the beautiful things of life arent always to be found in full view or in likely places.
