From my earliest recollection, I have always wanted to be creating something, whether with paint, pencil, tin cans or clay. I felt the need. My public school years were a devotion to any Art classes available, and I had hoped to pursue a career after high school as a commercial artist. I had much encouragement from my high school Art teacher John Albrezzi. At one point I was asked by him to appear on a local TV show out of Albany NY, to exhibit some paintings and tin can sculptures that I had done in his class. I guess from that interview, I wouldn't have a career in front of a camera, FROZE LIKE AN ICECUBE!
After graduating from high school in 1964, 1 attended a summer session at The School of Practical Art in Boston, MA. In doing this, I was able to satisfy myself and my parents that an art career could be pursued. I received much encouragement from my teachers and colleagues, but I could not follow my dreams due to financial reasons.
Only in recent years the valuable time needed has become available along with many inspirations and influences. It's funny, but I'm right back almost where it all started, taking objects and making them into functional art. I concentrate mostly on recycled metal sculptures, bird feeders, furniture and accessories. I love what I do, and through the gallery I am involved with and the results of art craft festivals' see that many, many people feel that same way about my pieces and express that to me.
Most of my sculptures have been primarily designed to be used as birdfeeders and garden sculptures, but also can be used as planters. Each piece is one of a kind, although a theme may be carried from one to another piece, i.e. pelicans, woodpeckers, sea birds. These pieces are electrode welded from farm scrap and equipment that can date into 1850's and possibly earlier.
I hope to continue my work until I drop in my tracks. No matter what the future holds, I now have the satisfaction of knowing that what I create brings happiness to people whether they are owners or viewers.
